Light and Darkness

Waikiki - Light and Darkness contrast

Just about every day in Waikiki there is an amazing opportunity to see a glorious blue ski over the waters of the pacific. Then, if you turn your back to the cloudless sky and bright light and look inland you see dark rain clouds over the interior of the island.  Inland it rains pretty well every day. Often following the rain there are brilliant rainbows resulting from the shining sun transforming the mist from the rain into colourful bows of light and promise.   The contrast in the weather and the appearance is truly amazing.

Some days I definitely feel like I am stuck in the interior, shrouded by dark clouds that are threatening rain and gloominess.  On these days I have to choose to remember to look up and outward.  In looking outward I am reminded that God has called me out of this darkness and into His marvelous light.
He has not called me out of darkness simply for my own good. He has called me so that I may proclaim the wonders, excellencies and praises of Him.  This humbles me and lifts me up at the same time. I am so privileged to be God's own possession, to be in an intimate relationship with the God of the universe who created places like Waikiki that display His glory so beautifully and abundantly.

1 Peter 2:9     New American Standard Bible (NASB)      9 But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nationa people for God’s own possession, so that you may proclaim the excellencies of Him who has called you out of darkness into His marvelous light
