The Quality of Love

New Puppies are fun, they are soft, they smell puppyish, they lick you with soft little tongues and they don't tend to shed.  Puppies however have a way of growing into dogs, dogs that eat shoes, dogs that slobber, dogs that shed and mess up the house.  My husband loves having a dog.   I tolerate having a dog.   It isn't that I don't like dogs, in fact I do, I just don't love all the work that goes with them.  Also I really hate the heartbreak of loosing a dog that you have grown to love because their life span is significantly shorter than ours.
I have been advised that you don't keep from getting a dog just because they are sure to break your heart in 15 or so years.  You take the love while you can get it and give love to it in return and live by the motto that it is better to have loved and lost than to never have loved at all.  I guess that falls under the same category that love never fails, always perseveres, always hopes.  Love is something that doesn't hold grudges or look on the negative side of things. Owning dogs helps us grasp these very crucial truths.
