Dead Heading

I am trying to create beautiful garden space this summer because my kids are having a reception in the back yard.  It is a daily exercise in diligence, attentiveness, feeding, watering, weeding and dead heading.   If I let it go or neglect my responsibility to be the care giver of the plants then the negative impact is felt rather quickly.  In as little as 48 hours potted plants wither and weeds sprout and take over.   When I neglect to dead head then the plants put all their energy into seed production instead of into creating more beautiful blooms.   I need beautiful blooms for the garden to look its best.
How like my spiritual life, the parallels are striking. Having a  daily exercise in diligence, attentiveness, feeding (reading the Word), watering (meditating on the word and in the Spirit), weeding (confessing) and dead heading (changing course) are required.  If I neglect my responsibility I dry up spiritually, evil thoughts creep in like a bad weed.
I am so grateful that God put so many natural reminders all around me a illustrations of my relationship with Him.
Well, it is time to dead head, so off  I go.
