Thanks giving is a wonderful occasion for us to stop and consider the goodness of God in providing for us. I have been pondering giving thanks lately, not just the holiday, but the action and attitude in general. I give thanks to God before I eat, and I thank God for his clear intervention for example when an accident has been avoided. There are other times that I give thanks too. Recently I had the where with all to give thanks to God for some wonderful lab technicians who were amazingly patient with my daughter who was being a little challenging when having blood drawn. I found a beautiful transformation occur in my mind as I gave thanks that day. I moved from being irritated to peaceful simply with giving thanks and then I recalled the following.
Phil 4:5-7 Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near. 6Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. 7And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
Duely guarded, I recognize again that God is good all the time, His word is useful for instruction - thanks be to God.
