A Light in Darkness

Each year as Christmas time comes, I try to recapture the amazing truth of God coming to earth as a vulnerable baby with the purpose of giving His life as the required blood offering to address the sin of mankind.    The children's play at church highlighted the fact that Jesus's coming is great news for mankind. It was told from a fun and refreshing angle to highlight the contrast between big news, and the Good News.   What new or refreshed truths would I find this year as I re-approached the familiar story from a different angle?
To embrace the story in a fresh way I read it in my "Harmony of the Gospels".  In our life group last night we looked at the consistent message that Jesus came as a light in the darkness, (John 1, Professed by Zechariah in Luke 1, revealed by Simeon in Luke 2).    The basic truths found in these segments of scripture:
Jesus is the light of the world
We are living in darkness outside of His presence
Receiving His light is essential
Once His Light is let in, the pathway of peace follows.
Jesus is a light shining in the darkness.
The reality that we are in darkness, without direction, a clear path or even a real awareness of the depth of the darkness we are living in, is a truth not quickly embraced by those living in that darkness.
Jesus:  The Light of the world
Jesus' light brings us clarity, insight, vision, and awareness.  His light repels ignorance, sets a clear and good direction for us, and is brought to all mankind both those near to God and those far away.
This Christmas and I believe throughout the new year, I am embracing the light which Jesus brings in a new way.  I want clarity in my life as much as I want to see the pathway to peace - both as an inner concept and an outer expression.   I urged my life group to act with intention to bring the Light of Jesus into their Christmas preparation and celebration.
What will you do with the Light of Christ, the light of the world?
