Wonder

4 year old Gabe: With his hand stroking the wall in the dining room..."Grandma, how come you have orange walls?"
Me: "I thought it would be a nice colour to paint them, but I think they are getting tired and it is time to paint them again."
Gabe: "Oh, don't change them, I like the orange." and off he ran.
That was the extent of our conversation and he found something else to occupy himself with.
Why he likes the orange, I don't know. I do know that he loves bright vibrant colours. He notices the shininess of cars, his red crayons are the ones that are most worn down, he loves wearing red shirts when given an option. His selection of bright colours is reflective of his bright personality. He makes me smile with his wonder at life, his curiosity and his determination to read.
I trust that when God considers me, as his curious child, that He smiles too. I am grateful that His grace and patience is much like mine towards Gabe. He knows I am still just a little child and he is very, very patient with me. He knows that I continually stop in wonder at His presence, at His creation and at the amazing way He imparts truth to me through His Word. Sometimes my wonder is expressed in delight. Sometimes it is expressed in a trembling grief of self awareness. He sees it all, He knows all my ways. His discernment of my going out and my laying down is amazing. He is indeed familiar with all my ways. (Ps 139:3) Where can I go from His presence? No where!
