I have really been pondering the quality of love lately. I am a giving person, but I want to be much more generous with my time, more concerned about the world I live in and more benevolent. I want the bar to be raised way higher in my life. I have pondered and wondered, how can I make this happen? I have come to realize that this kind of love isn't gained by striving. It is gained by loving. Huh, what you say? Well the bottom line is that I am not going to love more by working hard to love (though I do also believe that Love in the human realm is a decision) -regardless...loving with great effort typically wears me out.
The way I see it the only way that I am going to love others more will be by loving God more exuberantly. When I do that then I am filled with God's return investment of...now get this... love. With God's love in me I have more love to give. Luke 6:38 says: Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, presseddown, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.” When I follow this advice, then when I do seek out ways to give more the ability to do so isn't stressful or strained, it is an overflow of what has been given.
I like God's economy, it has a great ROI.
