I have been reading the Truly, truly's of the gospel of John. I am kind of stuck on the wonder of Jesus being God. This is not a new truth to me, it was one that was ingrained in me from infancy. I am re-approaching this truth though, from a new perspective. Lately I have been talking to an immigrant about the scriptures. They were not raised in a Christian tradition and so truly struggle with the amazing things that Jesus does.
This has prompted me to try to change my perspective, to see things differently for the sake of understanding the truth of the gospel at a deeper level.
When I read in John 5 that Jesus sees the father working at such a level that He imitates God's work - he does what he sees the father doing. I am amazed. Jesus saw clearly the Father at work, and did what he was doing - mirror actions. How did Jesus do this? He was human, and God - I get that. How exactly did He see the Father working sufficiently to mimic Him. What I am really wondering when I ask this about Jesus is, can I do that too? Do I actually have the capacity to be Holy because God is Holy (1 Peter), and makes me holy (Ex. 31:13)? It takes a whole bunch of re-aligning of my thoughts to see God working. I am too myopic on my own, but Jesus is not near sighted. He obviously sees the Father and follows perfectly - an amazing mystery.
Me fitting in and being a child of God, and therefore having some capacity to follow Him is a real challenge. To me this is like puzzle pieces all strewn about. There is the piece that says "His divine power has given us everything we need for a godly life" 2 Pet 1:3 and the piece that lets me know that hoping isn't hopeless because "by his power he may bring to fruition your every desire for goodness and your every deed prompted by faith."1 Thess 1:11. I am not without power, I just experience it in limited form. I see darkly 1 Cor 13:12, when I want to have clear vision. I am sadly myopic.
Oh that I may get the barriers out of the way of my line of sight. I long to set my sights on the right goal and pursue Christ well. I pray for clear vision.
